What is a Vector Graphic vs a Raster Graphic?
A rasterized images such as .JPGs and .PNGs. are made up of millions of little dots like in a photograph. With a rasterized image, because each pixel contains a finite amount of data or information, the image can only get so large before it looks pixelated and you can see the pixel (data container) itself. A Vector image uses math based algorithms to produce the art so that no matter what size you scale the image to it won’t look blurry or distort. Logos should always be a vector image and are usually in an .ai, .eps or .pdf (if saved from a vector origin file) format. Photographs (Rasterized images) should be at 300 DPI (Dots Per Inch) and saved as .jpg/.jpeg, .psd, .png, .tiff, .bmp or .gif. For more detailed information on artwork, raster or vector based files see our artwork guidelines!
